When your body starts losing more fluid then it takes in, and your body is short of water and other fluids to normally carry out the functions. And if you do not refuel those lost fluids, you might get dehydrated.
Most of the common causes of dehydration include vomiting, excess sweating or diarrhea. Even if the intake of water is less than normal during hot weather or during exercise, that may cause dehydration. People suffering from chronic condition are at more risk than the other.
A person suffering from mild dehydration can get at easy by drinking lots of water or liquid, where as a person suffering from severe dehydration may need medical help. But the best way is to keep one’s self from hydration by taking in loads of water or liquid in hot weather, exercise and making sure to replace what your body has lost.
The main reason for occurrence of dehydration is when you don’t drink enough water to replace the one which is lost. That can happen when you are too busy or sick, or sometimes when you are hiking or travelling and there is no access to safe drinking water. Other than this dehydration can even occur when a person is suffering from acute diarrhea or vomiting, children are mostly affected by are at risk. A person suffering from high fever, as the temperatures goes higher the more he is prone to getting dehydrated. Excess sweating due to exercising or hot weather can even lead to dehydration.

When a person is dehydrated they pass less or no urine, eyes are sunken, the skin looses it elasticity as well as resilience if pinched. If a person is dehydrate, he or she is at risk of low blood pressure while in standing position or moving, which can lead to other problems.
To avoid all these problem, drinking plenty of water or fluid and eating food which has higher content of water will definitely help. Special care should be taking when a person is ill. Start taking in more fluid or water before you get dehydrated. Not necessarily water, as other fluids and beverages too have water content. Avoid drinking aerated drinks as they are really high in sugar and have less amount of sodium to replace the electrolytes which were lost.
When exercising or travelling to a zone where natural and hygienic water is not accessible, make it a point you carry enough water along to keep you hydrated and refuel when there is enough water lost.
